50. Selection and noise do not invalidate an exact witness

A data-dependent cone proposal is not itself a statistical confidence statement. Once the matrices and witness are fixed, its exact invariance identities hold or fail independently of how it was proposed. What remains statistical is whether the chosen uncertainty set covers the generating model.

For a finite-sample interpretation, first obtain a valid uncertainty set for a fixed identifiable model class. Proposition 35 supplies one route under independent reset experiments and declared rank coverage. Proposition 33 translates those probability bounds into a fixed-core operator bound. A validity witness can then be sought for a fitted member or robustly for every member. Only the latter identifies a common true-model domain on the coverage event.

The admissible family must enforce mass conservation exactly. A free box around unconstrained matrices generally contains nonnormalized families. Discarding those families is legitimate only because the generating process is already assumed to obey the exact mass law. Other cuts on a confidence set need their own justification.
